Char (Samwise Gamgee)
As our fundraising event we are walking 192 miles over 3 weeks, starting November 4th 2019 from Robin Hood's Bay to St Bee's Head; from Coast to Coast.

This is a challenging route, spanning 3 national parks with varied terrain.

Travelling from Robin Hood's Bay we will be walking against the bad weather.

Walking the route in reverse results in a climactic finish in the Lake District. A perfect parallel to the journey of Frodo and Sam in Lord of the Rings from the Shire to Mount Doom, Mordor. We shall do this all whilst in hobbit clad!

This will be a huge physical and emotional challenge. We have never done anything on this scale before and Katherine and I have made it impossibly difficult for ourselves given the time of year and reverse in direction. Any contribution you can make in aid of our idiocy would be greatly appreciated and will help BDP with their good work.

The Coast to Coast walk has always been something I’ve wanted to do, but I’ve never been in a position before to commit to such a long trek... or had someone brave enough to agree to spending three weeks walking with me non-stop! Our plan to walk this route was hatched out of casual conversation on the descent from Rosebury Topping, shortly followed by our idea of doing a Lord of the Rings theme to our trek! The route covers some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK. Anything you felt able to contribute to our fundraiser would be very much appreciated. We were fairly limited to the time of year that we could walk, so if you aren’t able to contribute to our fundraiser, sending us some November sunshine would be just as much appreciated!
