Horizons offers a wide range of options for people who use drugs and alcohol for both adults, young people and also people who have been affected by someone else’s substance use.

Youth Group
Our Family Team run a free and confidential youth group for children and young people who are living with a family member who uses alcohol or drugs.
Our youth group is an opportunity to get out for the evening and have some fun with other young people. We have groups for 5 – 10-year-olds and for 11 – 16-year-olds, covering the whole of Bristol. We have dinner together and do activities including arts and crafts, outdoor play, cooking and 1-to-1 time if a young person wants to take some time out.
All groups are held for two hours one weekday evening a week, twice a month for 5 – 10-year-olds and monthly for 11 – 16-year-olds. Transport is arranged to get the young person there and take them home again, either by car or minibus.

Older People – The 50+ Crowd
The 50+ Crowd is a weekly social group for people aged over 50 with past or current problematic alcohol or drug use, to meet, chat and have the opportunity to take part in different activities. You can also ask to speak to staff 1-to-1, to discuss anything confidentially and refer yourself onto a range of services we offer.
Each week we run optional activities like shared reading, creative writing, gardening, arts and crafts. We are currently working with The Reader, a national charity who want to “bring about a reading revolution”. They visit the 50+ Crowd twice a month with different stories, poems and literature to read and talk about together. No preparation necessary.
The 50+ Crowd is a drop-in based service. If you would like to refer a person to this service, please encourage them to come to one of the sessions. If you would like to talk to our 50+ worker, please email 50plus@bdp.org.uk.
