BDP is an expert, energetic charity working with over 4,000 people a year in a vibrant city with an increasingly diverse population. We have particular skills and track record in engaging with marginalised populations. We know that Veterans often face multiple barriers to accessing treatment and are under-represented in Bristol substance misuse services. With funding from the Royal British Legion (RBL) we’re seeking an enthusiast to improve access to and engagement with, treatment services for Veterans.

You will be based between BDP’s Early Intervention and Engagement team in Brunswick Sq and RBL’s Advice and Outreach team at their Pop-in Centre in Broadmead. You will have excellent liaison skills to build solid relationships with all agencies involved with the support of Veterans locally. You will be able to work with Veterans, including those who are homeless or vulnerably housed in a flexible, incremental way. You will deliver brief and extended brief interventions as part of the engagement process and complete full assessments for longer term treatment with Bristol’s Recovery Orientated Alcohol and Drug Service (ROADS) where appropriate.

We are looking for someone committed to system change and knowledge sharing between agencies, with strong planning and organisational skills and above all empathy and understanding of the needs of Veterans whose alcohol or drug use is problematic and feel estranged from civilian services.
