Do you work with families of veterans affected by alcohol or other drugs?

We're running a Professionals' Day to find out more about the experiences and support needs of family members of ex-service personnel with problematic alcohol or drug use.

We're inviting professionals from Bristol and the surrounding area, whose work can bring them into contact with affected families, to join us and help us develop a new peer support intervention to support families of veterans.

The Project

BDP's veterans support service is a partner in this project, funded by the Forces in Mind Trust and delivered by the University of York and Adfam.

There is a lot of evidence showing that families can be greatly affected by a loved one’s substance use and we also know that a relatively high proportion of veterans have problems with substance use. However, we know very little about the particular problems experienced by families of veterans with substance use problems
