Led by Emma Wells, Early Engagement & Intervention Manager.

Join us for an introductory session aimed at professionals and students who would like to find out more about the work we do and the shape of drugs and alcohol in Bristol.

Beginning with a brief overview of our history, structure, ethos and the support we can offer in Bristol - and how this fits into wider treatment and support services available in Bristol.

A member of the engagement team will then explore the ongoing work of our needle exchange and ways which we are helping to reduce harm by promoting safer injecting advice and resources.

Safer Injecting

  • Needle Exchange Resources:
Launched as one of the UK's pioneering Needle Exchanges in July 1987 we are now supporting 25 pharmacies across Bristol to provide a range of sterile injecting equipment and resources.
  • Types of Injecting:
Learn about ways we are helping to reduce the risks if they inject intravenously (in your veins), intramuscularly (in your muscles) and subcutaneously (just below the skin).
  • Total Dose Injecting:
Find out about our ongoing work with the National Institute for Health Research promoting Low Dead Space (LDS) equipment, which helps to reduce damage to veins and reduce the risk of passing on blood-borne viruses.

At the end of the session there is a chance to ask any questions.

Tea, coffee and refreshments are available at the start of the session.
