The low down

The Friends & Family Group aims to provide support for friends and family of people who use drugs and or are concerned about someone else's drug use.

Often, concerns around someone else's drug use, causes feelings of anxiety, isolation and feelings of helplessness. Attending a group will help you think about ways to communicate more effectively with someone about their drug use. We aim to:

  • Help people to feel less isolated and unsupported.
  • Enable people to cope with the pressure of someone close to them using drugs.
  • Look at ways to reduce the harm and impact of drug using on the drug user, their friends and family.
  • Provide information on drugs and patterns of use.
  • Explore treatment options and the recovery process.

It offers an opportunity to talk, be heard, explore and express feelings, receive support, advice and information. We encourage people to keep coming back to receive on-going support, people may choose to come to the group on an occasional basis for immediate advice and support.

The group lasts for an hour and a half and is facilitated by two workers from BDP.
