What is the Early Intervention Service?
The Bristol Early Intervention Service is being delivered by two voluntary sector drug support agencies. Bristol Drugs Project are delivering the service in the north and HAWKS are delivering the service in the south.
The Early Intervention Service aims to offer support to young people who have problems relating to emerging drug and alcohol use, and to those young people who have concerns about their parents' or carers' drug and alcohol use.
The target groups for this service are those young people who are engaged in substance use but who are not in contact with any drug support service. A screening tool is used to enable workers to identify young people who are at risk and appropriate support is then offered. This can include giving information and advice relating to substance use, brief interventions and motivational support, referral to agencies offering diversionary activities or, for young people with more complex needs and problematic use, referral for treatment.
