Boost Programme
This is a new service for people who are committed to abstinence from drugs and alcohol. The aim of the service is to guide people into the world of training, work, leisure and non-using peer groups as the tools for preventing relapse. This approach will complement the range of services in the city supporting people who are drug-free to stay that way.
Is Boost for me?
If you are abstinent from drugs and are not on substitute medication (methadone, subutex) or if you are willing to sample abstinence for a trial period then Boost may be for you.
What is Boost?
Boost is a 12 week programme for people who are abstinent or would like to sample abstinence for a trial period. The work done in Boost involves looking at social and recreational activities, which you enjoy, and new things you would like to try.
Individual Sessions:
Individual sessions are
usually held once a week for an hour with a
Boost worker. At these sessions you will be
encouraged to:

- Explore your trigger situations and find ways to manage them.
- Set goals and tasks in specific areas of your life that are important to you.
Group Sessions:
The group sessions are held
once a week on Wednesday afternoons at the
Boathouse (see map below). The groups are small
and informal usually with 4 to 8 clients, all
of whom are in a similar position. Some topics covered are:
- how to have fun
- health & nutrition
- stress management
- communication skills
- problem solving
- drug refusal skills
- stress inoculation

It is an opportunity to meet new friends, try out new things, get support and find out what's going on locally that can help you in staying abstinent. There will be refreshments, food and opportunities for you to help organise future activities. It is at St Stephens Cafe every Saturday from 7 - 10pm (see map)
